Guest Article At Dumb Little Man: “How To Separate ‘Real’ Wants From ‘Should’ Wants”

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

I’ve just published a guest post at Dumb Little Man called “How To Separate ‘Real’ Wants From ‘Should’ Wants.”  The article is about learning to set goals based on what moves us on a deep, physical level, rather than what it sounds rational to want, or what our cultural influences say we should be chasing.  I look forward to your feedback.

    Hi

I wanted to post this comment on DLM, but for weeks now I haven’t been able to access their comments, so I thought I’d drop a line here ;)

    Great article.

I like how you are looking to the physical for the response and keeping it out of the mental realm and all that interference.

I really like your exercise of writing down goals and noting how they make you FEEL. I’m going to give that a go.

Another useful thing I find in sussing out our true goals, is looking at one’s values. But, then again, values can be a function of upbringing…

Hi Juliet — I’m glad you liked the article. It’s always amazing to me how much wisdom our bodies can offer if we’re just willing to fully listen to them. I look forward to hearing how the exercise worked out for you. Best, Chris
